Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a unit, a resource, and an action? Units are organizational groupings (department, site, office). Resources are the people or assets to manage. Actions are the compliance requirements (courses, exams, inspections). Units connect resources and actions: an obligation arises when a resource and an action are in the same unit with a compatible type.

How are compliance obligations generated? Automatically. Eriga cross-references the resources and actions assigned to the same unit and verifies type compatibility (e.g., an action targeting “Person” generates obligations only for Person-type resources). There is no need to create obligations manually.

Can I have the same person in multiple units? Yes. A resource can belong to multiple units simultaneously, generating separate obligations for each applicable unit-action combination.

What happens if I delete a unit? Resources and actions are not deleted — they only lose their association with that unit. Obligations that depended solely on that unit are removed. Roles assigned on the unit are removed.

Can I change the type of a resource or action? No. The type is immutable after creation. If you need a different type, create a new resource or action and delete the old one.

Is the expiry date calculated automatically? Yes. When you issue a certificate, the expiry is proposed based on the selected action’s validity period (e.g., an action with a 5-year validity → expiry 5 years from the issue date). You can still edit it manually.

Can I revoke a certificate? Yes, from the certificate detail panel. Revocation is irreversible: the certificate is deleted and the obligation returns to non-compliant.

What are attachments? Links to external documents (URL + label). You can attach PDFs, images, or any resource accessible via URL. Eriga does not host files directly.

Why isn’t my compliance at 100% even though I have all the certificates? Check that certificates have not expired, have not been revoked, that resources are assigned to the correct units, and that actions have the correct target resource type.

What do the compliance colors mean? Green (Compliant) means a valid certificate is present. Orange (Expiring) means expiry within 30 days. Red (Non-compliant) means no valid certificate.

How do I quickly find what’s missing? From the Compliance page, the Gaps tab shows all obligations without a valid certificate, listing the resource, action, and involved units.

I can’t see some resources or units. Why? The Operator and Viewer roles limit visibility to assigned units only. Ask the Owner or an Admin to check your roles.

How do I invite a new user? From a unit’s detail panel, in the Roles section, enter the person’s email and choose a role. If they are not yet registered, they will receive an email invitation.
